Around the birth

After some days of pretty stable bodytemperature, in Saturday January 19, 2008 it started to drop. During the night of Saturday to Sunday, Szuka was pretty restless whiteh lots of panting, digging and weaning, but there were no contractions visible. Early in the morning the contractions were there and shortly after that, the first puppy has been born.

Again a delivery during the day, only after a long tiring night. Szuka thought each puppy was very strange and even a little scary, so we needed to help each puppy to be born and removed from umbillical cord and afterbirth. Also the cleaning was at first not the biggest hobby or our little madam, but after lots of praising and encouraging she is now doing a brillant job.

We have been scared a little bit about the very small and tiny puppies who are born, especially the only 150 gram of the first red male. Thankfully mother nature is helping him because the little man was the first to catch a nipple and was holding and suckling very tight. We might have to help him a little bit the first few days but we have all the faith in the world that together with his mum he will grow up to be a strong, healthy boy! Ofcourse we are extreme happy and proud of our little Szuka girl and to daddy Switch who has produced some very nice puppies and all we can do now is enjoying them every single minute for the next 8 weeks.

Update 22 January 2008

Unfortunately....... the first 24 hours of his live it looked all pretty well with our little red fellow: he was drinking regularly and was very lively and did not loose or gain any weight compared with the birthweight, so not really much reason to be very worried. But during the night from January 21 to 22, he started weaning and crying and did not want to drink anymore with his mother. In the next following hours he became weaker and weaker, more crying and having problems with breathing. Although we have tried everything we could, he left our world around noon.

Goodbye beautiful little fellow, you were so much wanted, but too bad, you are a little star in heaven now......

Sometimes breeding is just not fun all the time..........
