Litter June 24, 2003
The last week at our place. We started the week with the eye examination by Dr. Strobl in Best. Although not obligatory by the Dutch Border Collie Club, we as breeders think it is very important to check the pups on CEA (a hereditary eye disease). We were glad that all pups are free from CEA and any other hereditary diseases that can be seen at this age.
Another item on the agenda was a visit to the park. The pups enjoyed the space, and to our surprise also the big lake, which even resulted in a true swimming party! On Wednesday the puppy character test was planned, as usual executed in a perfect and enthusiastic way by fellow breeder Greet Abbink. Based on the results of this test, our own assessment and the preferences of the prospective pup owners, we have jointly decided which pup should go to which home.
But we had a big problem ourselves. We had the intention to keep one dog and one bitch from this litter, although they would live at other homes. The choice for the bitch was fairly easy, but we kept doubting between two of the dogs. So it is obvious that we are very grateful that one of the other new owners allowed us be the co-owner of their pup. Also the other bitch, that will go back to her father Kip in the USA, will be co-owned by Kip's owner and ourselves. So in the end of the 6 puppies, 4 will remain a little bit ours too. We cannot say how happy we are that in this way we have plenty of possibilities to continue with the lines of Border Collies we want to set up.
This week real portraits of the puppies, together with their new owners (except Abfab's Chris of course) and we are telling you their names.
